Difficult situations experienced in contact with the patient by students of physiotherapy

Celem pracy jest identyfikacja i charakterystyka typów sytuacji trudnych, z którymi zmuszeni są konfrontować się studenci fizjoterapii na etapie studiów licencjackich, a także uzyskanie informacji mogących posłużyć do doskonalenia programów kształcenia fizjoterapeutów. W części teoretycznej znajduje się opis komunikacji terapeutycznej i możliwości jej zastosowania w pracy fizjoterapeuty. Omówione zostały również rodzaje sytuacji trudnych, jakich mogą doświadczać fizjoterapeuci w kontakcie z pacjentem, a jakich studenci fizjoterapii. W części badawczej poddano analizie 50 prac studentów III roku fizjoterapii Collegium Medicum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. W pracach tych, studenci przedstawiali sytuacje trudne, jakich doświadczyli podczas zajęć na uczelni i na tej podstawie zostało wyodrębnionych 6 kategorii trudności. Opisane również zostały uczucia i reakcje, jakie wywołały w przyszłych fizjoterapeutach sytuacje trudnego kontaktu z pacjentem. Zidentyfikowano 2 najczęstsze rodzaje trudności i są to: trudności współpracy z pacjentem, wynikające z nieakceptacji choroby przez pacjenta i trudności wynikające ze specyficznej roli studenta, jako fizjoterapeuty i jej konsekwencje.

Aim of this study is the identification and characterization types of difficult situations with which physiotherapy students have to confront during the study, and also to obtain information which could contribute to the improvement of education programs in physiotherapy. The theoretical part is a description of therapeutic communication and the possibility of its use in the work of a physiotherapist. There are also discussed the types of difficult situations which experience physical therapists in contact with the patient, and which students of physiotherapy. The research part was analyzed 50 works of third year students of physiotherapy Jagiellonian University Medical College. In these works, students are presented situations in which they have experienced difficulty with contact with patients and on this basis were extracted six categories of difficulty. Also described the feelings and reactions which were provoked by these difficult situations in students. Identified two the most common types of problems and they are: difficulty co-operation with the patient which has problems with disease acceptation and the difficulties arising from the student's specific role as a physiotherapist and its consequences.
