Geological and geomorphological potential of the Low Beskid Mts and the Carpathian Foothils as a factor of geotourism development

Zróżnicowanie walorów przyrody nieożywionej stanowi istotny i nadal nie w pełni wykorzystany potencjał dla rozwoju funkcji turystycznej Karpat. Geoturystyka i ekoturstyka, oparte na atrakcjach geologicznych i geomorfologicznych, mogą stanowić ważny element w promocji regionu, a także w zrównoważonym rozwoju miejscowej gospodarki. W artykule scharakteryzowano wybrane walory geologiczne i geomorfologiczne środkowej części Beskidu Niskiego oraz przylegających od północy terenów Dołów Jasielsko-Sanockich i Pogórza Karpackiego, które w dużej mierze wzbogacają walory poznawcze tego regionu i mogą stanowić lokalne i regionalne atrakcje turystyczne

Geological and geomorphological phenomena constitute significant elements of the geodiversity of the Low Beskid Mts and Carpathian Foothills (Polish Outer Carpathians). On the basis of literature data and field studies, a total of 121 geosites were distinguished in the study area. They include: natural geological outcrops (41 objects), rock tors (26 objects), quarries (13 objects), landslides (11), tectonic caves (7), water gaps (7), springs (5) and waterfalls (3) (tab. 1). Despite the significant natural geodiversity of the study area, this potential is largely untapped in local strategies of tourism development. However, geotourism and ecotourism are thought to be important factors for the sustainable development of the Carpathian region, and natural geodiversity could be a key asset to be used in promotion and development of local enterprises
