"Mecharańcza" – propozycja alternatywnego polskiego przekładu powieści "A Clockwork Orange" Anthony’ego Burgessa

Niniejsza praca ma na celu przetestowanie nowej strategii tłumaczenia powieści "A Clockwork Orange" Anthony’ego Burgessa na język polski, z uwzględnieniem udanych w różnym stopniu, już istniejących tłumaczeń. Proponowa nowa strategia ma odmienne niż poprzednie podejście do nadsatu – stworzonego przez autora języka, którym porozumiewają się bohaterowie powieści. Robert Stiller i Cezary Michoński, którzy interpretowali nadsat jako zdegenerowaną mowę potoczną lub slang, skupiali się w swoich tłumaczeniach przede wszystkim na oddaniu silnie zrusyfikowanego słownictwa powieści. Nowa strategia interpretuje nadsat jako rejestr, jedną z cech którego jest leksykon obfitujący w zapożyczeia z rosyjskiego. Podejście to pozwala tłumaczowi skupić się na odwzorowaniu charakterystycznego dla powieści słownictwa, oraz jednocześnie poświęcić należytą uwagę innym aspektom przekładu literackiego, jak choćby tłumaczenie nazw własnych oraz imion. Tłumaczenie wybranych fragmentów, powstałe w wyniku zastosowania tej strategii jest przewidziane jako kontrpropozycja dla istniejących polskich przekładów powieści.

This dissertation tests a strategy for translating Anthony Burgess’ "A Clockwork Orange" into Polish, taking into account the existing attempts and their varying degree of success. The proposed strategy varies in the approach to the Nadsat language spoken by the characters in the novella, devised by the author. The heavily Russian-influenced vocabulary of Nadsat has been the focal point in the translations by Robert Stiller and Cezary Michoński, who interpreted it either as a slang or as a deteriorated form of vernacular speech. In the newly attempted translation, Nadsat is interpreted as a register, and employing the heavily Russified lexicon as one of its features. This approach allows the translator to focus separately on rendering the artificial lexis of the novella, without being distracted from other aspects of translation, such as rendering proper names. The resulting translation of selected fragments is intended as an alternative for the existing Polish renditions of the novella.
