MEXICO IN AMERICAN INTEGRATION PROCESSES

Ameryka Łacińska to region o silnym poczuciu tożsamości i jedności wynikającym z długoletniego kolonializmu i zależności od zewnętrznych mocarstw. Procesy integracyjne na tym kontynencie były w głównej mierze inspirowane chęcią uniezależnienia się od Stanów Zjednoczonych. Ameryka Łacińska od zawsze pozostawała w sferze zainteresowania Stanów Zjednoczonych, czego wyrazem była Doktryna Monroe'a oraz ruch panamerykański. Przez lata istnienia systemu międzyamerykańskiego układ sił nie zmieniał się, ale państwa Ameryki Łacińskiej coraz częściej wyrażały swoje postulaty. Meksyk jest szczególnym państwem latynoamerykańskim ze względu na specyficzne stosunki łączące go zarówno z Północą, jak i z Południem. Z racji położenia geograficznego włączył się w procesy integracyjne w Ameryce Łacińskiej, a także zacieśnił stosunki ze Stanami Zjednoczonymi, podpisując Północnoamerykańskie Porozumienie o Wolnym Handlu. Dualne włączenie międzynarodowe Meksyku jest wyznacznikiem jego polityki zagranicznej i determinuje kształt relacji z Ameryką Łacińską i Stanami Zjednoczonymi. Celem pracy jest ukazanie i porównanie roli Meksyku w latynoamerykańskich i północnoamerykańskich ugrupowaniach integracyjnych.

Latin America is a region with a strong sense of identity and unity resulting from many years of colonialism and dependence on external powers. Integration processes on the continent were largely inspired by the desire to become independent from the United States. Latin America has always remained in the sphere of interest of the United States, as evidenced by the Monroe Doctrine and Pan-American movement. Over the years the existence of the Inter-American system the balance of power did not change, but Latin American countries were increasingly expressing their demands. Mexico is a special Latin American country due to the specific relations linking its with both the North and the South. Because of the geographical location Mexico became involved in integration processes in Latin America, as well as strengthened relations with the United States by signing the North American Free Trade Agreement. Dual international incorporation of Mexico is a determinant of its foreign policy and assigns the shape of relations with Latin America and the United States. The aim of this thesis is to show and compare the role of Mexico in the North American and Latin American integration groupings.
