Niniejsza praca traktuje o działalności propagandowej Oktawiana Augusta. Pierwszy cesarz Rzymu już w początkach politycznej kariery rozpoczął dzieło kreacji swojego wizerunku. Propaganda Oktawiana dotyczyła każdego aspektu jego osoby, tworząc spójny i precyzyjny obraz władcy. Podzielić ją można na trzy zasadnicze płaszczyzny, które opisywane są w trzech kolejnych rozdziałach pracy. Pierwszy z nich zajmuje się deklarowanym republikańskim obliczem Augusta - władca ten bowiem występował jako wyzwoliciel rzeczpospolitej. Druga część dotyczy propagandy religijnej Oktawiana i rozwoju jego władzy charyzmatycznej. Ostatni rozdział opowiada o zwieńczeniu starań Augusta - przedstawieniu siebie jako ojca ojczyzny, który jako jedyny mógł zapewnić dobrobyt Rzymowi. Praca ta ma na celu zarówno prześledzenie propagandowych sfer władzy Oktawiana, jak i skonfrontowanie wykreowanego wizerunku cesarza z innymi źródłami epoki.

This thesis concerns the propaganda activities of Octavian Augustus. The first Emperor of Rome started to create a self – portrait at the very begining of his public career. Octavian’s propaganda involved all aspects of his persona, creating a consistent and precise image of the ruler. It can be seen on three basic levels, which are described in three following chapters. The first chapter deals with the declared republican face of Augustus, as he posed as the saviour of the Republic of Rome. The second part addresses the religious propaganda of Octavian and the development of his charismatic power. The last chapter describes the culmination of all Augustus’ longings in becoming the Father of his Country. This paper’s aim is to explore the propaganda sphere of Octavian’s rule as well as to confront the image created by the Emperor with other sources from the epoch.
