The death and the afterlife in the ancient cultures of China and Greece

W pracy omawiane są ryty pogrzebowe mieszkańców Chin i Grecji w czasach starożytnych, a także ich wierzenia dotyczące życia pozagrobowego. Za cel obrano przeanalizowanie różnić i podobieństw w kwestii śmierci i związanych z nią praktyk w kulturach starożytnych Chin i Grecji. Poprzez dobór państw, zestawiane są ze sobą kultury będące kolebkami Azji Wschodniej i Europy. Praca ma postać analizy porównawczej w formie trzech rozdziałów podzielonych na podrozdziały. Przyjęto hipotezę badawczą, iż starożytne Chiny oraz Grecja wykształciły podobne obrzędy pogrzebowe, lecz różne od siebie wizje życia pozagrobowego. W dziele wykorzystano źródła pisane oraz archeologiczne, a także informacje pochodzące ze stron internetowych i platform z materiałami wizualnymi. Wyniki analizy wykazały, że ryty pogrzebowe w Chinach i Grecji posiadają wiele cech wspólnych, jednak nie są tożsame, natomiast wizje życia po śmierci różnią się od siebie w stopniu znacznym.

The work focuses on Chinese and Greek funeral rites in ancient times, along with the beliefs about the afterlife. The research focused on the differences and similarities according to death and its practices in the ancient cultures of China and Greece. Due to the choice of those two countries, the cradles of East Asian and European civilizations could be compared. The work is in the form of a comparative analysis consisting of three chapters with subchapters. The hypothesis states that Ancient China and Ancient Greece developed similar burial rites but different views on the afterlife. The work was based mainly on written and archaeological sources with additional information from websites and audiovisual platforms. The results show that, in both China and Greece, the funeral rites tended to be similar but not identical, and beliefs about the afterlife were vastly different.
