Roy Andersson's Songs of Mankind. An analysis of Songs from the Second Floor (2000)

The aim of this thesis is an in-depth analysis of Roy Andersson’s film Songs from the Second Floor (2000). The first chapter probes this filmmaker’s signature style and the formal means and methods of work he employs. Chapter Two analyses the condition of humanity as presented in the film through such phenomena as the disintegration of social bonds, the decline of Western civilization and a crisis of religion. The final chapter attempts to place this work within a broader cultural context and studies the historical, pictorial and literary references found in the film.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza filmu szwedzkiego reżysera Roya Anderssona pt. „Pieśni z drugiego piętra” (2000). W rozdziale pierwszym badaniu poddany zostaje autorski styl filmowca i związane z nim zabiegi formalne oraz metody pracy. Rozdział drugi analizuje kondycję ludzkości poprzez takie zjawiska, jak rozpad więzi społecznych, schyłek cywilizacji zachodu oraz kryzys religii, ukazane w filmie. Ostatni rozdział to próba osadzenia dzieła w szerszym kontekście kulturowym i studium nawiązań historycznych, malarskich oraz literackich.
