Historical continuity versus political moment : political philosophy of Bonisław Trentowski

Filozofia polityki stanowi ważną, acz niekiedy niedocenianą część twórczości Bronisława Trentowskiego. Warto zatem spróbować spojrzeć na tę część spuścizny filozofa polskiego nie tylko od strony założeń i rozwinięć systemu filozoficznego (co jest oczywiste), ale również od strony pragmatycznej (zaś dla nas - historycznej), jako filozofii polityki in praxi (świadomie kładąc tu wyrażenie pleonastyczne), która w swoich diagnozach i prognozach musi również uwzględniać zmienny moment polityczny. Filozof polityki pisze nie tylko "od siebie", ale także "w imieniu" innych (uwzględniając ich racje), nie tylko z perspektywy "prawd wiecznych", ale także "tu i teraz" (uwzględniając moment historyczny). Próba połączenia tych dwóch perspektyw stanowi trudne wyzwanie dla kunsztu myślenia politycznego. Czy Trentowski sprostał tak rozumianemu wyzwaniu?

Political philosophy is an important, yet sometimes underestimated, area of Bronislaw Trentowski's work. Hence, this part of the Polish philosopher's legacy should be examined not only from the viewpoint of the assumptions and elaborations of the philosophical system (which is obvious), but also from the pragmatic (or for us - historical) perspective, as a political philosophy in praxi (the pleonasm applied here deliberately), which in its diagnoses and prognoses must also take into account the changeable political moment. A political philosopher does not only state his/her own opinion but also writes "on behalf of" others (taking into account their reasoning), doing so from the viewpoint of "eternal truths" as well as "here and now" (taking into account the political moment). An attempt to combine these two perspectives is a difficult challenge for the craftsmanship of political thinking. Did Trentowski manage to succeed in dealing with this challenge?
