Comparative study of love metaphors in the songs of female and male singers of Latin pop

Niniejsza praca bada użycie metafor o miłości kobiet i mężczyzn w tekstach piosenek z gatunku latynoski pop. Celem jest przeanalizowanie i porównanie obu płci pod względem występowania i rodzaju śpiewanych przez nich metafor opisujących miłość. Praca ta ukazuje zarówno występujące między obiema grupami użytkowników języka hiszpańskiego różnice jak i podobieństwa. W pierwszej części pracy zostały przedstawione i opisane zmieniające się na przestrzeni wieków teorie dotyczące użycia i charakterystyki metafor oraz ich podział według teorii Lakoffa i Johnsona z 1986 roku. Kolejna część skupia się na konkretnej kategoryzacji i analizie obu płci pod względem użycia różnych rodzajów metafor o miłości oraz wyodrębnieniu podobieństw i różnic między nimi występujących. Choć mówi się, że kobiety i mężczyzn różni poziom emotywności oraz sposób opisywania swoich uczuć, można zauważyć pomiędzy nimi punkty wspólne, których jest wbrew pozorom wiele. Przykłady fragmentów piosenek, w których dochodzi do użycia miłosnych metafor w pewnym stopniu różnicują płcie, lecz rodzaj użytych metafor oraz ich budowa okazują się być bardzo podobne. Powyższe studium porównawcze przedstawia jak dwie, genetycznie różne płcie, potrafią znaleźć nić porozumienia w kwestii użycia metafor towarzyszących im na co dzień.

This work explores the use of love metaphors in the lyrics of female and male singers of Latin pop. The goal is to analyze and compare the two sexes in terms of the presence and type of metaphors that they use to describe love. This work shows the differences and similarities that exist between the two groups of Spanish speakers. The first part of the work presents and describes the theories of the use and characteristics of metaphors which were changing over the centuries, as well as their division according to the theory of Lakoff and Johnson from 1986. The second part focuses on the specific categorization and analysis of both genders in terms of the use of different types of metaphors about love and on the identification of similarities and differences between them. Although it is said that men and women differ in the level of emotiveness and the way they describe their feelings, there are common points between them and their number, contrary to appearances, is quite high. Examples of fragments of songs in which love metaphors are used, to some extent, differentiate the genders, but the type of used metaphors and their structure turn out to be very similar. This comparative study shows how two genetically different sexes can find a thread of agreement regarding the use of metaphors that accompany them on a daily basis.

Este trabajo estudia el uso de metáforas de amor en las letras de canciones de pop latino de las y los cantantes. El objetivo es analizar y comparar los dos sexos en el ámbito de la presencia y los tipos de metáforas que describen el amor en sus canciones. Este trabajo muestra tanto las diferencias como las similitudes entre los dos grupos de hispanohablantes. La primera parte del trabajo presenta y describe las teorías y características de las metáforas que cambiaban a lo largo de los siglos, así como su división según la teoría de Lakoff y Johnson de 1986. La segunda parte se centra en la categorización y el análisis de diferentes tipos de metáforas de amor que aparecen en las canciones de ambos sexos y en la identificación de similitudes y diferencias entre sus dos puntos de vista. Aunque se suele decir que los hombres y las mujeres difieren en el nivel de emotividad y en la forma en que describen sus sentimientos, existen algunos puntos en común entre ellos y su número, contrariamente a las apariencias, es bastante elevado. Ejemplos de fragmentos de canciones en los que se utilizan metáforas de amor en cierta medida diferencian los géneros, pero los tipos de metáforas utilizadas y su estructura resultan ser muy similares. El estudio comparativo de este trabajo muestra cómo dos géneros genéticamente diferentes pueden encontrar un hilo de acuerdo en cuanto al uso de las metáforas que los acompañan en el día a día.
