Tematem pracy jest sposób funkcjonowania grupy ludności Hakka na przykładzie konkretnych społeczności, zamieszkujących przede wszystkim Chińską Republikę Ludową, ale także Tajwan, czy Hong Kong. Kluczowymi poruszanymi zagadnieniami są kwestia procesu kształtowania tożsamości etnicznej tej grupy etnicznej, w odniesieniu do wybranych teorii etniczności, problematyka określenia dlaczego Hakka są grupą, czy podgrupą etniczną w obrębie większej grupy etnicznej Chińczyków Han, oraz wreszcie dynamika wewnętrzna tej tożsamości etnicznej, to jest relacja między byciem Hakka i byciem Chińczykiem Han, a także czynniki na nią wpływające. W ramach części teoretycznej pracy omawiane są wybrane teorie oraz modele etniczności, rodzajów relacji etnicznych, a także problematyka stereotypu i stereotypizacji, czy wreszcie sposób rozumienia etniczności i grup etnicznych oraz mniejszościowych w Chińskiej Republice Ludowej oraz politykę rządu ChRL wobec tych grup. Omówione jest również pochodzenie grupy etnicznej Hakka, gdzie kluczowy jest proces migracji; nazwa przypisana tej grupie, a także czynniki, które pozwalają wyróżnić Hakka na tle innych wspólnot zamieszkujących Chiny oraz na tle pozostałych Chińczyków Han, a więc przede wszystkim cechy kulturowe specyficzne dla Hakka, do których zalicza się przede wszystkim język, ale także pewne zwyczaje, zachowania, postawy, czy inne wzory kulturowe.

The main subject of this thesis is the way in which the identity of Hakka population functions examplified by particular communities, mainly living in People's Republic of China, but also Taiwan, or Hong Kong. The key issues raised is this work are the issues of ethnic identity formation process of this ethnic group, in relation to certain theories of ethnicity, the issue of determining why the Hakka are or are not a separate group, or an ethnic subgroup within a larger group of ethnic Han Chinese, and finally, the internal dynamics of ethnicity, which is the relationship between beinga Hakka and being a Han Chinese, and the factors affecting it. The theoretical part discusses the selected theories and models of ethnicity, types of ethnic relations and the issue of stereotypes and stereotyping, and finally the understanding of ethnicity and ethnic groups and minorities in the PRC and the PRC government's policy towards these groups. Also discussed is the origin of the Hakka ethnic group, where the key is the process of migration, the name assigned to this group, as well as factors that help to distinguish Hakka compared to other communities living in China and against the other Han Chinese, and above all the cultural characteristics specific to the Hakka, which include the language, but also certain habits, behavior, attitudes, and other cultural patterns.
