Prose by Bohumil Hrabal and Jerzy Pilch in the context of the bar stories tradition.

This work is an academic attempt to list and compare the most important indicators in the literary work of Bohumil Hrabal and Jerzy Pilch in the context of the tradition of storytelling. Close cultural context, agnate writing strategies, similarities in chosen genres, numerous common themes and comparable views on people and the world allow making this comparison between two authors. In addition to the narration styles and the specifications of chosen prose models, language, style, irony and humour have been analysed. The separate part of the work consists of the comparison on how created literary worlds have been constructed, which includes timeline, characters, literary space, and in particular “the prose of little motherlands”. This analysis is complemented by the classification of the characteristic themes recurring in the works of both authors such as: solitude, death, women, love, metaphysics, alcohol and cat. Comparing all of those elements aims to present the unfading beauty of Hrabal and Pilch stories.

Praca stanowi próbę zestawienia i porównania najważniejszych wyznaczników twórczości Bohumila Hrabala i Jerzego Pilcha, w świetle tradycji opowiadań ustnych. Na zestawienie twórczości Hrabala i Pilcha pozwala bliski kontekst kulturowy autorów, podobne strategie pisarskie, podobieństwa gatunkowe, liczne wspólne motywy oraz podobna wizja świata i człowieka. Analizie poddane zostały obok sposobu narracji i specyfiki wybranego modelu prozy, również język, styl, ironia i dowcip. Odrębną część stanowi porównanie budowy świata przedstawionego, czyli czasu, kreowanych postaci i przedstawionej przestrzeni, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem prozy małych ojczyzn. Uzupełnieniem tej analizy jest zestawienie sposobu realizacji charakterystycznych motywów powracających w twórczości obu pisarzy: samotności, śmierci, kobiet i miłości, metafizyki, alkoholu i kota. Porównanie tych wszystkich czynników ostatecznie ma na celu ukazać na czym polega niegasnący urok historyjek Hrabala i Pilcha.
