Al-Andalus – the Lost Paradise. Nostalgia caused by the Fall of the Caliphate of Cordoba brought to Light in rithā' al-mudun Poetry with the Example of Ibn Šuhayd's Riṯā’ Qurṭuba.

Al-Andalus po dzień dzisiejszy przedstawiana jest jako raj utracony. Jednym ze źródeł tego motywu są elegie pisane na upadające miasta. Praca ta skupia się na jednym z takich dzieł – Riṯā’ Qurṭuba Ibn Šuhayda aby zobrazować ówczesną Kordobę oraz wykazać cechy charakterystyczne dla gatunku elegii na miasta. Początek pracy jest zarysem historycznym dt. Al-Andalus, następnie ukazane są związki pomiędzy arabską tradycją elegijną a gatunkiem rithā' al-mudun. Po rozważaniach na temat utworu Ibn Šuhayda, przedstawiona jest sylwetka poety oraz kontynuacja tego sposobu patrzenia na Al-Andalus w wiekach późniejszych.

Until present day, Al-Andalus remains depicted as a lost paradise. One of the sources of this theme are elegies for fallen cities. This paper focuses on one of these poems– Riṯā’ Qurṭuba by Ibn Šuhayd to illustrate how Cordoba was portrayed at the time as well as to show the characteristics of the elegies for fallen cities genre. The beginning of the paper is an overview of the history of Al-Andalus. Following that, presented are the similarities between the arabic elegiac tradition and the rithā' al-mudun genre. After the portrayal of Ibn Šuhayd's poem, there is more about the author himself as well as some final thoughts on the continuity of such a way of looking at Al-Andalus.
