Blessing and curse in Ugarit and Old testament

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest analizie i porównaniu ugaryckich i starotestamentowych tekstów poświęconych błogosławieństwu oraz przekleństwu. Celem pracy jest wskazanie podobieństw i różnic pojawiających się w rodzajach oraz formułach błogosławieństwa i przekleństwa występujących w Ugarit i Starym Testamencie. Praca składa się z pięciu rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział jest wprowadzeniem do historii Ugarit. W rozdziale drugim dokonano analizy rodzajów i terminów odnoszących się do błogosławieństwa i przekleństwa u Semitów, ze szczególnym naciskiem na Ugarit i starożytny Izrael. W rozdziałach trzecim i czwartym dokonano analizy tekstów ugaryckich (rozdział III) o starotestamentowych (rozdział IV) mówiących o błogosławieństwie oraz przekleństwie. W rozdziale V dokonano porównania ugaryckich i starotestamentowych rodzajów i formuł błogosławieństwa i przekleństwa. W tekstach pochodzących z Ugarit oraz znajdujących się w Starym Testamencie powtarzają się niektóre rodzaje błogosławieństwa i przekleństwa, jak również pojawiają się podobne motywy (np: cudownych narodzin w wyniku boskiego błogosławieństwa). Pojawiają się także znaczące różnice, które wynikają z różnych systemów religijnych obowiązujących w Ugarit (politeizm) oraz Izraelu (monoteizm). Z tego powodu motywy pojawiające się w Ugarit i innych kulturach semickich nie mogły zostać bezpośrednio przeniesione do Izraela. Analiza tekstów ugaryckich i starotestamentowych pozwala stwierdzić, że istniał wpływ kultury ugaryckiej na kulturę Izraela, ale mała ilość zachowanych tekstów pochodzących z Ugarit nie pozwala jednoznacznie stwierdzić, jak głęboko on sięgał.

This work is devoted to analysis and comparison of Ugaritic and Old Testament texts about blessing and the curse. The aim of the study is to identify the similarities and differences in the types and formulas of blessings and curses found in Ugarit and the Old Testament. The work consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the history of Ugarit. In the second chapter author analyzes the types and terms relating to the blessings and curses with particular emphasis on Ugarit and ancient Israel. In the third and fourth chapters author analyzes Ugaritic (Chapter III) and Old Testament (Chapter IV) texts talking about the blessing and the curse. In Chapter V, author made a comparison between ugaritic and Old Testament types and formulas of blessings and curses. In the texts from Ugarit and those in the Old Testament repeated some of the blessings and curses, and there are similar themes (eg miraculous birth as a result of theof the divine blessing). There are also significant differences that result from different religious systems in Ugarit (polytheism) and Israel (monotheism). For this reason, elements of culture appearing in Ugarit and other Semitic cultures can not be directly transferred to Israel. Analysis of ugaritic and Old Testament texts reveals that ugaritic culture influence on the culture of Israel , but a small number of preserved texts from Ugarit can not reliably tell how deep this influence reached.
