Child in the eyes of his parents : the impact of representation of child in parent's mind on the development of child's self structure

Prezentowana praca ma charakter poglądowy i podejmuje problematykę rozwoju struktury self dziecka w kontekście bliskiej, emocjonalnej relacji z opiekunem. Struktura self jest ważnym czynnikiem wpływającym na poziom funkcjonowania psychospołecznego jednostki, a tym samym jest ważnym determinantem jej zdrowia. Kształtowanie się obrazu własnej osoby oraz rozwój procesów konstruujących ten obraz przebiega w odniesieniu do reprezentacji dziecka w umyśle jego opiekuna. Dlatego też ważne jest, by ten obraz był jak najbardziej adekwatny oraz złożony. W prezentowanej pracy opisane zostały dwa czynniki wpływające na kształtowanie się reprezentacji dziecka w umyśle opiekuna - zdolność opiekuna do mentalizowania zachowań i doświadczeń dziecka oraz charakterystyka dziecka. Drugi czynnik opisany został na przykładzie zachowań dzieci cierpiących na całościowe zaburzenia rozwoju ze spektrum autyzmu. Opisywane czynniki są silnie ze sobą związane, pozostają we wzajemnym wpływie oraz kształtują styl wchodzenia w interakcje, budowania bliskiej relacji, czyli styl życia w rodzinie.

This is a review article which takes issues of the development of self structure in the context of intimate, emotional relationship with parent. The self structure serves as an important factor which impacts psychological and social functioning of a person and is therefore an important determinant of health. Constructing self-concept and development of processes which carry out its creation is based upon representation of child in parent’s mind. Therefore, it is important that this representation is adequate and complex. In the work which is being presented two factors which infl uence this representation are described: mentalization skills of parent and characteristics of child. The second factor is described on the basis of an example of behaviors of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The described factors are interrelated, influence one another, and shape style of building relations within a family - shape family lifestyle.
