The book addresses the issue of relation between the form of Iranian novel and the dynamics of the social change. Analyzing the phenomenon of feminization of the postrevolutionary fiction, it points into the crucial role that the female characters have gradually achieved in this fiction, as well as to their psychological complexity and entanglement in complicated relations with the other characters tending to become a clue to the literary processing of the changeable and multilayered social reality, that is no longer compatible with the classical literary forms. Critically approaching the simplistic assumption of the traditional sociology of the novel that the external social reality is mirrored by the fictional world, the book inquires the ways in that modern literature challenges the extra-textual reality into an ongoing dialogue and its textual representations. The experiences of Iranian novel, a relatively new, but vivid and powerful local tradition of this genre, occur to be a valuable contribution to the field.
