Problems of digitalization and uploading cultural heritage in Poland after 1989 in the context of copyrights and development of new technology

Celem pracy jest omówienie problematyki digitalizacji oraz udostępniania dziedzictwa kultury w sieci. Przytoczone są w niej pojęcia i definicje, a także historia, cechy i funkcje tego procesu. Temat opisany jest w kontekście prawa autorskiego i innych norm prawnych dotyczących ochrony dziedzictwa cyfrowego. Digitalizacja, jako nowy wymiar dokumentacji, zostaje przeanalizowana pod względem technologicznym – przedstawiona jest specyfikacja digitalizowanych obiektów oraz sprzętu potrzebnego do tego procesu. Scharakteryzowane są również liczne projekty digitalizacyjne działające w Polsce oraz w Europie, a także biblioteki cyfrowe, wirtualne muzea i inne instytucje gromadzące i udostępniające zdigitalizowane zbiory.Praca opisuje różne aspekty procesu digitalizacji, zasady teoretyczne oraz praktykę działania polskich instytucji zajmujących się udostępnianiem cyfrowego dziedzictwa kultury.

The purpose of my thesis is to discuss the problem of digitizing and uploading cultural heritage online. The thesis covers some terms and definitions as well as the history, characteristics and functions of the process. The notion of digitizing is discussed in the context of copyrights and other legal regulations regarding the protection of digital heritage. Digitizing, as a modern way of documentation, is examined from the technological point of view. Namely, I provide a specification of the digitized items and of the equipment necessary to the process. I proceed to discuss various digitizing projects undertaken in Poland and in Europe as well as digital libraries, virtual museums and other institutions that accumulate and share digitized collections. What the thesis covers is various aspects of the digitizing process, theoretical regulations concerning the work of the Polish institutions that deal with sharing digital cultural heritage and the practical operations of these institutions.
