“The Importance of Being Earnest” Oscara Wilde’a – omówienie najważniejszych problemów translatorskich oraz analiza prównawcza trzech polskich tłumaczeń

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza problemu nieprzekładalności w tekstach literackich oraz wskazanie jej źródeł. Analizę tego problemu przeprowadzono w oparciu o sztukę Oscara Wilde'a "The Importance of Being Earnest" oraz jej trzy polskie tłumaczenia. Praca została podzielona na trzy części. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcono opisowi oraz genezie sztuki Wilde'a oraz przyjęciu sztuki w Polsce. Rozdział drugi zawiera omówienie głównych problemów translatorskich w sztuce oraz prezentuje różne spojrzenia na problem nieprzekładalności w tekstach naznaczonych kulturowo. Rozdział trzeci poświęcono analizie trzech tłumaczeń sztuki Wilde'a ze szczególnym naciskiem na rozwiązania zastosowane w tłumaczeniu elementów naznaczonych kulturowo.

The purpose of the following thesis is to analyse the problem of untranslatability occurring in literary translations and identify the sources of untranslatability in such texts on the basis of the analysis of the play "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde and its three Polish translations. The thesis has been divided into three chapters. The first chapter includes the description and genesis of the play followed by the analysis of the reception of Wilde's play in Poland. The second chapter deals with major translation problems in the play and analyses different approaches to the problem of untranslatability in culture-bound texts. The last chapter includes the analysis of three Polish translations of "The Importance of Being Earnest" and focuses on solutions applied by translators in order to deal with culture-specific elements.
