A confrontation with the authority. The phenomenon of Vuk Karadžić from a Humanistic Psychology perspective.

Tematem pracy licencjackiej pod tytułem „Konfrontacja z autorytetem. Fenomen Vuka Karadžicia w ujęciu humanistycznego nurtu myśli psychologicznej” jest ukazanie postaci słynnego serbskiego reformatora w perspektywie koncepcji Abrahama Maslowa. Szczegółowej analizie poddane są w niej teksty – monografie, artykuły i komentarze działaczy kultury, historyków, artystów i pisarzy stanowiące dowód na to, że ocenom i opiniom na temat osoby i działalności Karadžicia towarzyszą główne elementy myśli humanistycznej. Praca podzielona jest na trzy części. W obszernym wprowadzeniu przedstawione są główne założenia psychologii humanistycznej. Ponadto nakreślona zostaje sylwetka autorytetu jako ucieleśnienia społecznej i indywidualnej potrzeby posiadania stabilnego i pewnego punktu odniesienia na przestrzeni dziejów. Podkreślony zostaje tym samym ponadczasowy wymiar i mechanizmy funkcjonowania autorytetu w świadomości społecznej. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawione są teksty autorów z XIX wieku. Zarówno pozytywne jak i skrajnie negatywne opinie i komentarze na temat reformatora zaprezentowane są na tle burzliwej epoki, w której kształtowany był obraz kultury i społeczeństwa w odradzającym się państwie serbskim. Rozdział drugi jest poświęcony rozrachunkowi z reformą Karadžicia w XX wieku oraz ocenie jego postaci w czasach najnowszych. Sylwetka kontrowersyjnego reformatora przedstawiona zostaje w odniesieniu do charakterystycznych tendencji w kształtowaniu współczesnej tożsamości serbskiego narodu oraz skomplikowanego procesu reinterpretacji kultury. Dzięki perspektywie myśli humanistycznej autorytet Vuka Karadžicia rozpatrywany jest w kategoriach wybitności, Maslowowskiej samoaktualizacji oraz bezkompromisowych dążeń do realizacji wyznaczonych celów. Z drugiej strony podkreślona zostaje wartość twórczej dyskusji z autorytetem oraz konstruktywnego sprzeciwu wobec narzucanych przez jednostkę wzorców i reguł. Dzięki konfrontacji z autorytetem ukazane zostają najważniejsze mechanizmy rządzące jego funkcjonowaniem w świecie społecznym. Z kolei analiza poszczególnych tekstów pozwala na wyróżnienie tych cech charakteru i temperamentu, które pozwalają jednostce na osiągnięcie i utrzymanie szczególnej pozycji w hierarchii społecznej.

SUMMARYThe main idea of the following BA thesis is a presentation of the phenomenon of the authority of Serbian reformer Vuk Stefanović Karadžić. A detailed analysis was carried out to point out the most important roles Karadžić played in 19th century and all the consequences of his reforms in modern Serbia. The fundamenal theoretical guidelines in the process of the author’s researches were inspired by the Abraham Maslow idea of the human opportunity and need for fulfilment and self-actualization. Maslow’s idea is a part of the widely described field of modern Psychology – the Theory of Human Motivation and Humanistic Psychology. It adopts a holistic approach to human existence through investigation of meaning, values, freedom, tragedy, personal responsibility and human potential. The author of the following thesis worked under the assumption that the selected literary texts and other source material presenting a figure of Serbian reformer included the main principles of the Humanistic Psychology.A thesis is divided into tree individual parts. The first part makes an outline of the main assumptions of the Humanistic Psychology and the individual and social need for national myth as well as the description of the nature of the authority and personality traits. All texts which are taken into consideration in the first chapter come form 19th century and present both favourable and negative opinions about Karadžić’s character, achievments and reforms. The main source of knowledge is a book by Miodrag Popović and a book Susreti s Vukom which contain a huge amount of commentaries by Karadžić’s opponents and enthusiast. In the second chapter texts from 20th and 21st century are analysed in depth in search of Maslow's assumptions. It is widely discussed how great the impact of Vuk Karadžić and his reforms on a shape of modern culture and policy in Serbia was. All collected texts e.g, Za i protiv Vuka (by Meša Selimović) or O Vuku kao piscu (by Ivo Andrić) contain main elements of the Humanistic Psychology. It is worth mentioning that not only positive opinions about Karadžić are included but also the decidedly negative commentaries (e.g. text Dva veka Vuka by Svetislav Basara).The following thesis could be a part of the progressive process of interdisciplinary researches in which both Psychology and Literature are taken into analysis. What is more, the main subject of the thesis, which is a power of the authority, should be also given some further consideration.
