Bariatric surgery in morbidly obese adolescents

Otyłość, czyli nagromadzenie w organizmie nadmiernej ilości tkanki tłuszczowej, jest chorobą przewlekłą, niosącą za sobą ryzyko wielu groźnych dla zdrowia i życia powikłań. W ostatnich latach obserwuje się obniżanie średniej wieku osób nią dotkniętych. Bardzo ważne jest zatem opracowanie efektywnych metod leczenia tego schorzenia. Dowiedziono, że w przypadku otyłości olbrzymiej u adolescentów (osób w okresie dorastania), terapia zachowawcza nie przynosi wymiernych efektów, a jedynym słusznym postępowaniem jest leczenie operacyjne, które ma na celu ograniczenie możliwości przyjmowania i/lub wchłaniania pokarmów poprzez ingerencję w struktury przewodu pokarmowego. Zabiegami tymi zajmuje się chirurgia bariatryczna.Celem pracy było zebranie i przedstawienie dostępnych danych na temat możliwości chirurgicznego leczenia patologicznie otyłych adolescentów oraz opieki nad nimi w okresie okołooperacyjnym. W pracy wykorzystano metodę analizy dokumentacji techniką klasyczną. Narzędzia badawcze stanowiły aktualne publikacje naukowe (artykuły opublikowane w czasopismach naukowych oraz podręczniki).Choć chirurgia bariatryczna u adolescentów wykorzystywana jest od stosunkowo krótkiego czasu, jej skuteczność opisywana jest w literaturze coraz częściej. Ma ona szansę stać się w niedługim czasie równie popularna, jak w populacji dorosłych.

Obesity is a chronic disease which appears as an accumulation of excessive quantity of adipose tissue in the human body. It can result in various harmful complication for people’s health and life. It has been observed recently that the average age of obese people is continuously lowering. It is therefore very important to devise effective methods of treatment of this disease. It has been proved, that in case of morbid obesity among adolescents conservative therapy is inefficient. The only right way of treatment is a surgery which aims at limitation of nourishment ingestion and/or absorption by the interference in the structures of the digestive system. That is the task of bariatric surgery. The aim of this work is to collect and present the available data on the possibilities of surgery treatments of the morbidly obese adolescents and its nursing care in the perioperative period.The method of documentation analysis with the use of the classical technique was used in the following dissertation. Current scientific publications (articles published in the scientific journals and textbooks) were used as the research tools.Though the bariatric surgery in the case of adolescents’ treatment has been used relatively short, its efficiency has been introduced in the scientific literature more and more frequently and is very likely to become as common as in the case of adult patients.
