Idealization of mental problems in selected teen series

Praca nosi tytuł ,,Idealizowanie problemów psychicznych w wybranych serialach młodzieżowych”. Jej celem jest ukazanie sposobu, w jaki współczesne treści dla młodzieży przedstawiają problemy sfery psychicznej, bazując przy tym na dwóch amerykańskich serialach pt. ,,Euforia” reż. Sama Levinsona oraz ,,13 powodów” twórcy Briana Yorkey’a. Co istotne, w obu materiałach główne bohaterki zmagają się z różnymi problemami psychicznymi. W części teoretycznej oparto się na naukowej literaturze przedmiotu, bazując głównie na książkach o psychologii. Część empiryczna prezentuje zbadanie pierwszych sezonów seriali za pomocą analizy zawartości. Dla badań został stworzony klucz kategoryzacyjny, za pomocą którego do każdej kolejnej sceny przypisano konkretne kody. W badaniach kierowano się próbą odpowiedzi na pytania, jaki jest obraz problemów psychicznych w analizowanych materiałach oraz czy te problemy mogą być w nich idealizowane. Wyniki pozwoliły na zaprezentowanie języka bohaterów, sposobu przedstawienia głównych bohaterek, oraz sposobu ujęcia problemów psychicznych w seriach.

The diploma work is titled "Idealization of mental problems in selected teen series". Its aim is to show the way in which contemporary content for young people presents mental problems, based on two American series entitled "Euphoria" dir. Sam Levinson and "13 Reasons Why" creator Brian Yorkey. Importantly, in both materials the main characters struggle with various mental problems. The theoretical part is based on scientific literature on the subject, principally on books about psychology. The empirical part presents the examination of the first seasons of chosen TV series using content analysis. A categorization key is created for the research, using which specific codes are assigned to each next scene. The research is guided by an attempt to answer the questions what is the image of mental problems in the analyzed materials and whether these problems can be idealized in them. The results allow to present the language of the characters, the way of presenting the main characters, and the way of presenting mental problems in the series.
