"Reality of extended meanings" : Mariam Petrosjan's novel "The gray house" as an example of magical realism

This article concerns the phenomenon of "reality of extended meanings". The Polish scholar, Katarzyna Mroczkowska-Brand, uses this term to describe the creative method of magical realism. In this article an attempt is made to trace how the fundamental features of this current are realized in the Mariam Petrosjan's novel The Grey House. The work undoubtedly extedns the notion of reality to intangible and irrational elements, shown as its inherent part. The fictional universe of the novel combines the everyday and the supernatural dimensions of existence, which is manifested primarily in the temporal-spatial structure of the work. The writer creates an image of reality, in which wandering in different worlds (making up the space of the House), and in time, turn out to be possible and fully natural. An important element created in world of the novel is also the relation of heroes to death and the dead.
