Apocalyptic motifs in selected pieces of Zygmunt Krasiński in relation to European Romanticism.

Celem pracy jest wskazanie silnych związków pomiędzy Objawieniem św. Jana i literaturę romantyczną, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem myśli i twórczości Zygmunta Krasińskiego. Praca składa się z trzech zasadniczych części. Pierwsza część to omówienie Apokalipsy św. Jana z perspektywy biblistyki i literaturoznawstwa. Druga część to prezentacja stanu badań wskazującego na najczęściej analizowane przez badaczy wątki apokaliptyczne u Krasińskiego. Trzecia część pracy to analiza wybranych dzieł polskiego poety: Nie-Boskiej komedii, Irydiona, Pokusy i Psalmów Przyszłości. Najczęściej podejmowane wątki w pracy to: obraz Wielkiego Babilonu i Nowej Jerozolimy, wizja katastrofy i zbawienia oraz wskazanie na dwutaktowość odczytań Apokalipsy jako księgi zagłady i pocieszenia.

The main objective of the thesis is to present a significant relation between the Book of the Revelation of Saint John and the literature of Romanticism, with special reference to thought and oeuvre of Zygmunt Krasiński. The thesis consists of three essential parts. The first one is an outline of the Book of Revelation from the perspective of biblical and literary studies. The second part is a presentation of the current state of research on those apocalyptic motifs in Krasiński's oeuvre that are most frequently examined by scholars. The third part of the thesis is an analysis of the selected pieces of Krasiński: Nie-Boska komedia [The Un-Divine Comedy], Irydion, Pokusa [The Temptation] i Psalmy Przyszłości [The Psalms of the Future]. The main motifs analysed include: the image of Babylon the Great and New Jerusalem, the vision of a cataclysm and salvation, and the twofold interpretations of the Apocalyse as a book of both destruction and consolation.
