Narracja w „Balladzie o smutnej knajpie” i w „Serce to samotny myśliwy” autorstwa Carson McCullers

Praca ta ma na celu przeprowadzenie analizy narracji w powieści “Serce to samotny myśliwy” i w opowiadaniu „Ballada o smutnej knajpie” autorstwa Carson McCullers. W pracy wykorzystana została metoda analizy tekstu literackiego, opisana przez Petera Stockwella w książce „Poetyka kognitywna. Wprowadzenie”, w szczególności pojęcie kognitywnej deiksy. W dziełach Carson McCullers – jednej z reprezentantek gatunku południowego gotyku – sportretowane zostają postacie samotne i groteskowe. Z tego powodu moja praca skupia się na konstrukcji i strukturze opowiadania i powieści oraz ich wpływie na kształtowanie postaci i prezentowanie ich samotności. Analizuję styl powieści, zmieniający się w zależności od kolejnych rozdziałów, zwracając przy tym uwagę na formy narracyjne takie jak list i sen, oraz sposób, w jaki wpływają one na kreację postaci.

This thesis aims at an analysis of the narration modes in Carson McCullers’s novel "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and short story “The Ballad of the Sad Café”. In my thesis I refer to Peter Stockwell’s method of cognitive analysis, described in his book “Cognitive Poetics. An Introduction”, which provides the reader with tools and terms for an analysis of a literary work, focusing especially on the notion of cognitive deixis. The works of Carson McCullers – a representative of the Southern Gothic tradition – treat of grotesque, lonely and estranged characters. My analysis focuses on the structure of the short story and the novel, and their role in the depiction of loneliness. I analyze the changing style of the chapters in "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter", as well as narration modes like a letter and a dream sequence, considering their significance when it comes to the construction of the characters.
