Following the CEFR publication in 2001, mediation has become associated with teaching foreign languages. It has been recognized as a wholesome language activity, along with reception, production and interaction. Still, it was still treated with caution and distrust, due to a lack of illustrative descriptors and a narrow definition of the term. Redefined in 2016, mediation gains a deeper meaning: of a tool for constructing a meaning and conveying a received meaning, as well as means for creating and controlling interpersonal relations, used to intermediate and cooperate in a multilingual and multicultural society. Mediation is not only an innovation in glottodidactics, but also an important factor in uderstanding the new dimension of second language acquisition.
