Aspects of the absurd : heroism or irony?

Artykuł ma na celu prezentację stanowisk podejmujących tematykę absurdu w filozofii o proweniencji egzystencjalistycznej. W pierwszej części tekstu zostanie ukazany aspekt refleksji filozoficznej nad kategorią absurdu w kontekście tzw. egzystencjalizmu heroicznego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem twórczości Alberta Camusa. Następnie zaprezentuję stanowisko subiektywistyczne Thomasa Nagela, konfrontujące wnioski na temat specyfiki absurdu ze stanowiskiem egzystencjalistycznym. Na bazie kluczowych dla tych stanowisk pojęć: ironii i heroizmu, uwzględniając różne ujęcia interpretacyjne związane z późniejszą, także artystyczną, recepcją absurdu, zostaną ukazane istotne, w moim przekonaniu, konsekwencje analizowanych stanowisk.

This article points at brief presentation of philosophical attitudes concerning the theme of absurd in existential thought. In the first part, my intention is to show the philosophical reflection over the category of absurd in heroic existentialism, concentrating mainly on Albert Camus’ work. The second part briefly summarizes the consequences if the subjective standpoint of Thomas Nagel, confronting the existential concept. On basis of the fundamental notions of heroism and irony, taking into consideration different interpretations focusing on different, artistic as well, receptions of the absurd problem, essential consequences of the philosophical concepts shown will be analyzed.
