Postrzeganie ciała przez starożytnych i średniowiecznych Irlandczyków
Perception of the body by ancient and medieval Irish people
Streszcz. ang. Bibliogr. s. 77-78
In the article the Author presents two so different attitudes of Irish people to body. On one pole we have body as an object of adoration and admiration, on the other – as an obstacle on the way to spiritual development. The first approach was presented by ancient Celts, also those living in Ireland. The other way of perceiving body was proper for Irish monks. The article starts with the picture of Celts and their attitude to body as seen by the ancient world. The Author draws from sources of Greek and Roman writers. Then the Author does the same basing on Irish literature (legends), she also points to parallels occurring in ancient sources. The last part of the article deals with practices connected with body, that were exercised in the Irish Church. Here the Author refers to lives of Irish saints, as well to the monastic rule written by St. Columbanus.
