Znaleziska monet rzymskich w Przewodowie rozpatrzone na nowo
Przewodów, a village situated in South-Eastern Poland is well known thanks to a hoard of Roman denarii found in 1937 and published by Stefan Skowronek in 1965 (Przewodów Hoard I). However in published inventories of Roman coins finds there is also information about other Greek and Roman coins discovered at that site (cf. Kunisz 1985, 173, No 209 I). Unfortunately the information luck any details. The author of the present paper basing on careful examination of well known as well as newly discovered sources try to reconstruct the finds as far as possible. The Coins were not found at Przewodów itself but in its vicinity and generally in North-Western part of former Sokal poviat. The findings were made during 80ties and 90ties of the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century by Nikodem Obrębski the citizen of Tartaków. There were probably Celtic and Macedonian Coins as well as Roman coins. Among the latter there were gold, silver and bronze pieces struck in times from Augustus till Marcus Aurelius. At least one hoard of Roman denarii consisting of at least 15 pieces is confirmed. Because of the time of activity of Nikodem Obrębski the hoard (which we should call Przewodów Hoard II) should be other than the mentioned above Przewodów Hoard I found in 1937. One could only hope that further archive research enable us to find more new data on these extremely interesting finds.
