Abstract in English

The goal of the current paper is to characterize the meaning of the lexeme práwda ‘truth’ in the Podhale dialect. I used the (modified) cognitive definition for this purpose. The analysis revealed the existence of two principal interpretations of the word: the ontic (práwda as a value, Latin veritas), and the cognitive one (práwda as the right in a dispute). As is characteristic of borderland dialects, the Podhale lexeme práwda features Slovak linguistic influence.
