The article examines limits in the poetry of Tymoteusz Karpowicz and Ezra Pound, especially in their monumental projects: Słoje zadrzewne and The Cantos. The poets were trying to create literary works resembling the mythical “Book” which describes a man in a very universal way. Structural experiments and original notions of poetic language were to gain the limits of expression. The latest volumes of Karpowicz and Pound are situated at this kind of limits. While the poet is trying to use the possibilities of language at most, his reader has to recognise the limits of literary communication. Karpowicz and Pound had ambiguous relations with their readers. The premeditated composition of Słoje zadrzewne and The Cantos provokes to think about the limits of interpretation, which are not confined to a poem, but are constantly widening. The author of this article is trying to reconstruct the strategy of reading which is inscribed in these volumes.
