Within the collection of the Archive of Jagellonian University, with a mark S II 589, there are disciplinary records of professors. In this group one file is titled Professor Maurycy Straszewski's Matter. Secret 1908" regarding the affair of persons using the same name, whose lives' paths interwove among the walls of Jagellonian University-Professor of philosophy Maurycy Straszewski and a Philosophy Faculty student Jan. The records tell an interesting matter, difficult to clear up: Jan Straszewski during his studies referred to the fact of being the University professor's son. This information enabled him to learn without paying tuition and for sure made passing exams easier. Prof. Kazimierz Torawski first found the student out when Jan Straszewski came to his examination. The truth was that the student can't have been Prof. M. Straszewski's son. It's difficult to answer unequivocally, why the Professor had agreed to be a "father"; it's incontrovertible that he knew about all - the student's genealogy was partly filled out with Professor's hand. It's proper to add that this embarrassing matter was solved by compromise. The student was to pay backfees and renounce a scholarship for children of gentry origin. Records don't tell whether he completed his studies. The professor obliged to resign the presidency of Departmental Building Committee and to retire exactly at reaching the proper age, what he did in 1910.
