To language through literature, to literature through language : about the correlated method in teaching heritage language learners

Język polski jako odziedziczony (na obczyźnie) i ojczysty (w Polsce) to dwa różne przedmioty, które wymagają inaczej ukierunkowanych działań dydaktycznych, w tym - w przypadku pierwszego - przesunięcia punktu ciężkości z kształcenia historyczno-literackiego na językowe. W artykule przedstawiamy metodę skorelowaną, czyli dydaktykę języka przez literaturę oraz literatury przez język. Jej istotą jest zintegrowane nauczanie części systemu językowego oraz sprawności. Jest bardzo przydatna w nauczaniu języka odziedziczonego. Pozwala ona na wielokrotny i zróżnicowany kontakt z treściami kształcenia, co wydatnie wspomaga proces zapamiętywania i internalizacji nauczanych zagadnień. Jest też bardziej ergonomiczna, co, przy ograniczonej liczbie godzin zajęć w szkołach polskich poza Polską, jest jej mocnym atutem.

The heritage language and the mother tongue as school subjects are not the same. Therefore, they require a different approach; namely, in the case of teaching the heritage language, it is neces sary to focus more on the language itself than on the historical and literary education of pupils. In the paper, we recommend to teachers Polish as a heritage language the correlated method based on teaching language through literature and literature through language. In this method, learners thoroughly develop their skills and competencies using an integrated approach. Moreover, they have multiple and varied contacts with the literary and educational variety of Polish.
