Apokalipsa w kulturze rosyjskiej
Apocalypse in the Russian culture
The article discusses manifestations of Russian apocalypticism, starting from the period of the union of Brest, through the Time of Troubles, the schism of the 17th century, the times of Peter I, the 19th century history – which saw St Seraphim’s prophecy of the Revolution, the apocalypticism of the Revolution itself, and up until now. The culture of Russia satisfies all the criteria of an eschatological culture, for which the recognition of apocalyptic signs in history is its fundamental task. This is why the clash between the mystical and rational was so dramatic in this culture. The core of the argument raging in the arena of the Russian culture is the question of man.
