The work deals with the theme of the mirror in two 19th-century novels - "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy and "The Doll" by Boleslaw Prus. The realisation of the mirror motif is discussed, taking into account the mirror as an element distorting reality, differences in the way of looking at one's own reflection among men and women, the mirror double, the mirror as a source of truth - about oneself and others and the mirror as an object with magical properties.
