W opracowaniu przedstawiono zalecenia służące poprawnej ocenie probiotyków zawartych w żywności na podstawie raportów WHO/FAO. Klasyfikacja probiotyków w dalszym ciągu przysparza trudności nie tylko w Polsce, ale także w wielu krajach na świecie, w których probiotyki w dalszym ciągu mają status dodatku żywnościowego. Poniższe opracowanie, łącznie z wcześniejszym raportem WHO/FAO z 2001 roku, ułatwi poruszanie się w świecie probiotyków producentom, badaczom oraz konsumentom.

This article represents a complete description of guidelines for the proper evaluation of probiotics contained in foods according to WHO/FAO reports. When it comes to the classification of probiotics it is still a controversial issue not only in Poland but also in many countries in the world, where probiotics often have food additive status. The article includes few issues from the earlier WHO/FAO (2001) report and outlines the most vital points which will make understanding of probiotics easier for producers, researchers and consumers.
