Praca stanowi interpretację cyklu wierszy Cypriana Norwida pt. |

The work is an interpretation of Cyprian Norwid’s collection of poems Vade-mecum, with paying special attention to his critique of civilization. The author claims that this critique organizes Norwid’s work – the poet is criticizing the 19th century civilization from the point of view of a Christian prophet. Secondly, the author discusses particular aspects of 19th century civilisation, which are criticised by Norwid, such as: 19th century literature, the idea of progress, capitalism, ideas fashionable at the time (such as socialism, Puritanism and Hegelianism), and 19th century high society. The author also points out to possible influences and similarities between Norwid and other, both Polish and European, authors (such as Baudelaire, Krasinski or Dostoyevsky). She also mentions positive postulates which Norwid formulates, apart from criticizing. It seems that the poet points out that Christian deeds and faith, as well as art, work and eternal life might free from evil of the world. |
