As the global financial crisis wrapped its tendrils around the world, squeezing funding streams dry for entire nations and restricting growth for years to come, few countries escaped its downward pull and reported positive economic growth. In Europe, nearly every country experienced a period of negative growth during which time their economies contracted and their GDP went down. There was one country in Europe that escaped this time of decline: Poland. A nation that only ten to fifteen years earlier had been in dire financial straits in the post-Cold War transition from a centrally planned, communist economic and political system to that of a privatized, capitalist system was proving to be surprisingly resilient in the face of disaster. This growth coupled with favorable market conditions such as a highly educated workforce and working for salaries typically less than their Western counterparts created an environment which encouraged international companies to expand and extend branches into the country. Huge multinational corporations such as Google, Amazon, IBM, and many more built offices and research centers in Poland, with more joining them every year. This paper presents an in depth analysis of how this phenomenon came to be from several different angles and perspectives.A series of qualitative interviews were completed in the process of researching this topic in order to get the clearest possible perspective on the situation from several points of view. Additional statistics from governments and organizations were also used in order to find and analyze patterns within the economic system.
