IVANKOVÁ, Daniela: National identity, ideology, media: What does influence attitudes towards refugees in Slovakia [thesis] Jagiellonian University MA in International Relations: Europe in the Visegrad Perspective, supervisor: Prof. dr. hab. Zdisław Mach, Level of qualification: Master (MA.), Kraków, 2016, 82 p. The subject of the interest of the thesis is an examination of influences on attitudes towards immigrants, especially refugees in the contemporary European refugee crisis within the Slovak Republic. The thesis consists of three parts: theoretical part, methodological part and analytical part. The theoretical part is divided into two main chapters. The first chapter is focused on the definition and clarification of phenomenon of national identity and national ideology, examined via political theory of Social Constructivism. When we understand who we are we can figure out what we want. The second chapter is dedicated to the research about the role of media as an influential tool for construction of reality due to its importance within the European refugee crisis. The Methodological part consists of the justification of the research topic and of research objectives. Examination is supported by in-depth studies of thesis topic using quantitative and qualitative research. Methodically the thesis uses induction and deduction, description and comparison, prediction and analysis. The analytical part reflects concrete effects of national ideology and the media on the attitudes of the Slovak citizens within the context of the European refugee crisis. |
