Z jednej strony, Korea Południowa porzucił swoją autorytarną przeszłość i rozwinęły się jednym z czołowych demokracjach w Azji. Z drugiej strony, choć panowanie Lee Kuan Yew zakończył się prawie 25 lat temu, Singapur zachowuje wiele z autorytarnego wpływ na jego założyciela. Over the past half century, once in the list of the world’s poorest and least-developed, the two countries have thoroughly transformed themselves into ultra-wealthy yet socially stable societies. They have progressed to relatively similar positions of economic power, the same cannot be said of their respective political climates today. On one hand, South Korea has abandoned its authoritarian past and has flourished into one of the foremost democracies in Asia. On the other hand, although Lee Kuan Yew’s reign ended almost 25 years ago, Singapore retains much of its founder’s authoritarian influence. Political discourse of how civil society groups influence the prospect of political transformation is extensive, however the mechanism is neglected.
