Niniejsza praca jest porównawczą analizą i interpretacją dwóch literackich miast, Łodzi i Macondo, pochodzących z powieści Władysława Stanisława Reymonta i Gabriel Garcíi Márqueza, jako urbanistycznych realizacji raju na ziemi. Autorka tekstu bada i opisuje mechanizmy działania mitu raju utraconego w literaturze, a także jego potrzebę i obecność w przywoływanych społeczeństwach. Praca tratuje o mieście, jako przestrzeni dialogu między aktualnymi doświadczeniami ludzkości a tradycją mitoreligijną. Prezentuje także sylwetkę człowieka, nieudolnego demiurga, którego dzieło, miasto-raj, konsekwentnie pogrąża i w rezultacie odsyła oba utwory w rejony mitu eschatologicznego.

This thesis is a comparative analysis and interpretation of two literary cities, Lódź and Macondo, based on the novels from the authors Władysław Stanisław Reymont and Gabriel García Márquez, presented as an industrialized man made realizations of 'paradise' on Earth. The author of the thesis studies and describes the mechanisms of the lost paradise myth, it's existence and the impact on the literature and culture. The dissertation presents the profile of mankind as an ineffective demiurge, unable to comprehend utopian ideology and satisfy the longing for happiness. Paradoxically, despite the effort of creating a new a superior reality, the final creation resembles that of the eschatological myth. The analysis of these novels attempts to show the reasoning of returning to the concept of lost paradise, highlighting the similarities as well as the differences of the realisation this myth is urban. An understanding the cities from their cultural and vernacular perspective allows the opportunity to look at the raised subjects in a instructive and informative way.
