Strategie radzenia sobie ze stresem a poczucie koherencji i potrzeba poznawczego domknięcia.
potrzeba poznawczego domknięcia, poczucie koherencji, radzenie sobie ze stresem
need for cognitive closure, sense of coherence, coping with stress
This research focuses on coping with stress, sense of coherence and dimensions of the need for cognitive closure – decisiveness and intolerance of ambiguity. Stress plays a key role in people’s lives and how they function. The awareness of strategies that a person faced with stress uses and their relationships with different psychological variables is useful in understanding human behaviours in stressful situations, also it can contribute to improve the quality of life. Relationships between strategies of coping with stress and sense of coherence were examined repeatedly. Need for cognitive closure has been the focus of researcher’s attention relatively recently, therefore examining its relationship with stress is very valuable. The methods used in the research are the following: Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations, Sense of Coherence Questionnaire, Need for Closure Scale. The variables are: strategies of coping with stress, sense of coherence, decisiveness and intolerance of ambiguity as dimensions of the need for cognitive closure. The research group comprised of 77 people travelling by train in Poland. The research was held in 2015 on three routes: Kraków-Wrocław, Wrocław-Kraków and Warszawa- Kraków.Before the data collection, significance level has been set to p < 0,05. Out of 5 statistical hypotheses, statistical analysis fully verified 5 of them. The research results confirmed a positive relationship between task-orientated coping with stress and sense of coherence and comprehensibility at significance level p < 0,001, between task-orientated coping with stress and sense of manageability and meaningfulness at significance level p < 0,01. The results indicate a negative relationship between avoidance-orientated coping with stress and sense of coherence and all of its dimensions at significance level p < 0,001. There is also a negative relationship between decisiveness and avoidance-orientated (p < 0,05) and emotion-focused (p < 0,001) coping with stress and distraction (p < 0,05). The research showed a positive relationship between decisiveness and task-orientated coping with stress at significance level p < 0,05. The positive relationships between social diversion and sense of manageability (p < 0,05) and meaningfulness (p < 0,001) were also confirmed. The relationship between intolerance of ambiguity and strategies of coping with stress was not statistically significant. This relationship requires further research or alterations of scientific methods. The research can be recognised as successful, as it provided us with many valuable results and may become an inspiration for further studies on coping with stress, sense of coherence and need for cognitive closure.
