Niniejsza praca magisterska dotyczy współczesnego odczuwania tożsamości żydowskiej w Finlandii w kontekście historycznym, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wpływu edukacji Helsińskiej Szkoły Żydowskiej, która uważana jest za instytucję mającą zasadniczą rolę we wzmacnianiu tożsamości żydowskiej u dzieci. Dane zawarte w tej pracy zostały oparte na materiale zebranym podczas trzech wizyt badawczych w Finlandii, odbytych w celu zapoznania się z liderami i przedstawicielami społeczności żydowskiej oraz poznania i zebrania literatury przedmiotu, w tym publikacji, książek, analiz i prac magisterskich. W pracy przedstawiono zarówno najważniejsze wydarzenia w historii społeczności żydowskiej w Finlandii, jak i samego kraju. Opisano także cechy tożsamości Żydów fińskich i programu naukowego Helsińskiej Szkoły Żydowskiej. Celem pracy jest opisanie typu idealnego tożsamości żydowskiej, dlatego nie skupia się w niej na tworzeniu się tożsamości fińskich Żydów.

This dissertation presents an overview of the present day Jewish identity in Finland, put into the context of history and with a special focus on the Jewish education in the Jewish School of Helsinki, which is considered a vital organ in strengthening the children’s Jewish identities in the community. The data in this dissertation is based on three extended study visits from Poland to Finland in order to meet with community leaders and members and do literature research of published books and articles as well as theses and dissertations and other sources. Main historical points of Jewish life in Finland as well as Finland as a state are presented, followed by a presentation of the features of Finnish Jewish identity and the Jewish education offered in the Jewish School of Helsinki. This dissertation is not able to cover the realities of identity formation of Finnish Jews in any great detail but aims to present the ideal.
