The purpose of the essay is to show intertextual and intermedial relationships between Lars Norén's drama Modet att döda (The courage to kill) and its television theatrical adaptation directed by Björn Melander, and differences between the original text and the adaptation. The first part of the essay presents figure of Lars Norén - the Swedish poet, playwright and director. The chapter describes his childhood, various influences that he was influenced by, and an overview of his oeuvre. The second chapter has a theoretical character and goes on to explain two important literary concepts - intertextuality and adaptation and their treatment of comparative literature foremost theorists. The term intertextuality was introduced by Julia Kristeva in 1966 and means that all the texts are influenced and related to each other. This work describes research on intertextuality, its eight dimensions described by Anders Olsson and Gerard Genettes research around the concept. Then, characterizes four types of adaptation according Marek Hendrykowski. They are described in diachronic order. The last chapter is analytical. Its aim is to find intertextual relationships in adaptation of Modet att döda. First the figures - father and son - and their relationship, which is very complicated. It may be seen as an example of the Oedipus complex. The concept belongs to psychoanalysis and was created by Sigmunt Freud. The chapter analyses also the presence of Ilya Riepins painting in adaptation. The essay concludes with a summary stating that literature, film and art coexist; thanks to that many new, innovative modes of action arises. |
