Praca ma na celu wielopłaszczyznowe przedstawienie zagadnienia jakim jest obecność kobiet brytyjskich w Indiach w XIX stuleciu. Przybliża czynniki i motywacje kobiet oraz ukazuje lęki, z którymi musiały się zmierzyć przed wyjazdem. Praca skupia się na różnych aspektach ich codzienności – obowiązkach, problemach egzystowania w odmiennym kręgu kulturowym, ale także życiu towarzyskim i prowadzeniu domu. Źródłami wykorzystanymi są cztery pamiętniki powstałe w odmiennych okresach XIX wieku. Bazując na nich przedstawia także subiektywne opinie kobiet brytyjskich o ich własnym losie. Ponadto przybliża obraz Indii przed pojawieniem się w nich Brytyjczyków oraz zmiany, jakie zaszły na skutek ich rządów.

The bachelor’s thesis aims to present a multi-faceted issue of the presence of women of British India in the nineteenth century. It zooms the factors and motivations of women and reveals the fears, which had to face before leaving. The work focuses on various aspects of their daily lives - responsibilities, problems someone has to live in a different cultural environment, but also social life and running the house. In this work there were used four diaries created in different periods of the nineteenth century. Based on these diaries, this work also shows subjective opinions of British women about their own fate. In addition, it zooms India before the advent of the British, and the changes that have occurred as a result of their governments.
