W tej pracy magisterskiej przeanalizowałem charakterystyczne cechy preambuły, która stanowiła wstęp do jednej z wielu decyzji Parlamentu Europejskiego oraz Rady Europy. Na początku tej pracy opisałem cechy języka prawnego, które odróżniają go od codziennego języka. Następnie opisałem po krótce legislację Unii Europejskiej. Tekst, który analizowałem zaczerpnął archaizmy oraz zwroty łacińskie z prawa Common law, jednakże współczesne akty prawne Unii Europejskiej pozbawione są tych elementów. Kolejną cecha charakterystyczną tego dokumentu jest fakt, że występuje w nim wysoka gęstość informacji, co z punktu widzenia tłumaczeniowego stanowi pewne wyzwanie. W części analitycznej dużo miejsca poświęciłem wyzwaniom tłumaczeniowym na poziomie terminologicznym i za pomocą wielu różnych słowników starałem się wybrać najlepsze polskie odpowiedniki terminów angielskich.

This work analyses distinctive features of the preamble of an EU parliamentary decision. To start with, a discussion of characteristics of legal language, which make it so different from everyday language, is presented. In addition to that, features specific to European Union legislation are outlined. The preamble text under analysis inherits certain features from Common law legislation in the form of Archaisms and Latinisms, which are not found in modern EU legislation. Further challenges arise due to the preamble being drafted with highly dense information and from the translator’s point of view this can cause rendering difficulties. In the analytical part of this work, special attention is given to specific issues in translation of specialised terminology. Various sources, including a diverse range of dictionaries, are consulted to synthesise a sound translation of the preamble text.
