Celem pracy magisterskiej jest zbadanie trudnych wyborów, przed jakimi stanął polski tłumacz w trakcie tłumaczenia fikcyjnego języka mówionego w szwedzkiej powieści młodzieżowej „Krąg”, której autorami są Mats Strandberg and Sara B. Elfgren. Praca podzielona jest na dwie części: teoretyczną i praktyczną. Część teoretyczna obejmuje podstawy teoretyczne. W części praktycznej prezentowane są wyniki analizy, dyskusja oraz wnioski. Analiza została podzielona na cztery kategorie: język młodzieżowy i slang, anglicyzmy, język ogólny oraz wyrazy „tabu”. Analiza skupia się na tak zwanych lokalnych strategiach tłumaczeniowych, tj. indywidualnych wyborach tłumacza, które prezentowane są na podstawie wybranych przykładów. Ze względu na analizę indywidualnych wyborów, praca ta odstępuje od systematyczno-teoretycznego sposoby analizy. Analiza pokazała, że tłumaczenie powieści młodzieżowej „Krąg” z języka szwedzkiego na polskich wymagała ze strony tłumacza podjęcia trudnych decyzji. Głównymi wyzwaniami tłumacza przy tego rodzaju tłumaczeniu jest zatem między innymi konieczność opanowaniu języka młodzieżowego zarówno w języku źródłowym, jak i docelowym, jak i różnice pomiędzy językiem szwedzkim i polskim w zasobach języka mówionego używanego w literaturze, oraz różnice w dostępnych zasobach języka o niższym rejestrze stylistycznym.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the difficult choices the Polish translator has faced during translation of fictitious spoken language in the Swedish youth novel “The Circle” by Mats Strandberg and Sara B. Elfgren. The essay is divided into two parts: the theoretical and the practical. Respectively, theoretical bases are explained in the first part and the results of the analysis, discussion and conclusion are explained in the second. The analysis is divided into four categories: youth language and slang, Anglicisms, common language and taboo words. The focus of the analysis is on so-called local translation strategies, i.e. individual translation choices, which are presented through the selected examples. By highlighting individual examples, the analysis deviates from the systems-theoretic approach. The results show that the translation of the youth novel “The Circle” from Swedish to Polish required difficult decisions for the translator. In closing, the main challenges in the translation of a youth novel from Swedish into Polish among others include: the translator’s need to master the youth language in the target language and the source language, differences between the Swedish and Polish language in terms of number of the spoken language’s markers used in the literature as well as regarding the number of available style markings in respect of words with lower stylistic level.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka vilka svåra val den polska översättaren stod inför vid översättningen av fingerat talspråk i den svenska ungdomsromanen ”Cirkeln” av Mats Strandberg och Sara B. Elfgren. Uppsatsen indelas i två delar: den teoretiska och den praktiska. I den teoretiska delen förklaras de teoretiska utgångspunkterna. I den praktiska delen presenteras själva resultatet för undersökningen samt en sammanfattning av resultatet. Analysen delas in i fyra kategorier: ungdomsspråk och slang, anglicismer, allmänt talspråk och tabubelagda ord. Fokus för undersökningen ligger på så kallade lokala översättningsstrategier, dvs. enstaka översättningsval som presenteras med hjälp av utvalda exempel. Genom att framhäva enskilda exempel avviker analysen från det systemteoretiska tankesättet. Av resultatet framgår det att översättning av ungdomsromanen ”Cirkeln” från svenska till polska medförde svåra val för översättaren. Slutsatsen är att de viktigaste utmaningarna vid översättning av en ungdomsroman från svenska till polska är bl.a. att översättaren måste behärska ungdomsspråket både i målspråket och i källspråket, att det finns skillnader mellan dessa två språk när det gäller antal talspråksmarkörer som användas i litteraturen samt när det gäller antalet tillgängliga stilmarkeringar i fråga om ord med lägre stilistisk nivå.
