W tej pracy staram się udowodnić, że Trzy wiedźmy oraz Panowie i damy autorstwa Terry’ego Pratchetta są adaptacjami dwóch dramatów Williama Shakespeare’a – Macbetha i Snu nocy letniej. Korzystając z Palimpsestów autorstwa Gérarda Genette’a rozważam związki pomiędzy dziełami literackimi, a następnie porównuje je w kontekście książek analizowanych przeze mnie. Następnie wymieniam cechy parodii i ilustruję je przykładami pochodzącymi z powieści Pratchetta, aby udowodnić zależności pomiędzy nimi a dziełami Shakespeare’a. W kolejnej sekcji mojej pracy porównuję Hwela – postać występującą w Trzech Wiedźmach z Williamem Shakespearem i wyjaśniam dlaczego teatr i sztuki teatralne są istotne w powieściach Pratchetta. Kolejnym etapem jest przeanalizowanie tytułów i ich wpływu na dzieło literackie. Wymieniam zależności występujące pomiędzy tytułami omawianych przeze mnie dramatów oraz powieści i wyjaśniłam w jaki sposób te zależności są przedstawione. Ostatnie trzy sekcje poświęcam postaciom występującym w Trzech wiedźmach i Panach i damach. Skupiam się głównie na trzech wiedźmach, Lordzie i Lady Felmet oraz elfach, a następnie wymieniam podobieństwa i różnice pomiędzy tymi bohaterami. Ostatnią część stanowi wskazanie, w jaki sposób różnice w charakterach postaci wpływają na fabułę.

In this paper I intend to prove that two of Terry Pratchett’s novels, namely Wyrd Sisters and Lord and Ladies, are adaptations of the following dramas by William Shakespeare – Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Using Gérard Genette’s Palimpsests I analyze relations between literary works and compare them with those occurring in the books that this thesis has privileged. Having enumerated features of parody, I provide a few examples illustrating my point. Later on I compare Hwel, a character occurring in Wyrd Sisters, with William Shakespeare and explain why theater and plays are so important in the novels by Pratchett. Then I move to the titles and their meaning for the literary works. I point out a few relations between the titles of Shakespeare’s dramas and Pratchett’s novels and explain how these connections have been created. The three last sections of my paper are devoted to the characters occurring in Pratchett’s novels. I focus mostly on the three witches, Lord and Lady Felmet and the elves in order to claim that they are based on the fairies and other Shakespearian characters. I do analyze similarities and differences between them and how they influence the plots.
