The Bachelor thesis presents the impact of environment on the flow rate measurement methods in mountain watercourses, showing the example of streams and rivers that drain Tatra and Bieszczady Mountains. Flow rate measurement methods are divided into two groups: direct and indirect. The first category combine methods in which the value of the flow rate is its direct result. In this group are: volumetric method, chemical method or methods in which weirs are used. The second category include methods in which the measure of respective elements like velocity and cross section of trough is necessary to obtain apposite value. In this group of methods commonly used are floaters and current meters. Moreover nowadays researchers use modern measuring devices in which Doppler effect is commonly used. The type of environment is one of the most important factors that determinate the choice of measurement method. In mountain areas watercourses need to be analyzed especially in the context of hydraulic and trough conditions and according to these aspects the researchers select the method to avoid errors in the measurement result. Hydraulic conditions include: water level, type of flow (laminar, turbulent), water velocity and flow rate, force of water. The possibility of conducting the measurement and its accuracy depends also on trough conditions which are: unconcentrated stream of water, river-bed forms, stream slope, snow or ice cover. The researchers mostly do not have an opportunity to conduct measurements in watercourses that have perfect parameters. In mostly cases conditions might modify the value of measurement and effect in some impediments like f. ex. problems with catching the whole water in volumetric method, destroying the weir because of high flow rate, turning back the water caused by turbulent type of flow when current meter is used. Because of those and many more impediments the researchers very often carry out operations that are not included in standard principles of measurement that can be found in literature. |
