Ukraina, niemal pod każdym względem jest krajem potrzebującym reform politycznych, gospodarczych oraz społecznych. Dlatego też celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie głównych przyczyn, przez które kraj ten nie był w stanie dokonać transformacji ustrojowej, która wiąże się m.in. z wprowadzeniem demokratycznych rządów prawa, wolnorynkowej gospodarki oraz społeczeństwa obywatelskiego. W związku z powyższym, autor na początku swojej pracy skupia się głównie na historycznym przedstawieniu problemu i stara się wskazać kluczowe momenty w najnowszej historii Ukrainy, które zaważyły nad dzisiejszym stanem tego kraju. Niemniej jednak, istnieje szereg innych przyczyn takich jak tzw. demokracja oligarchiczna, słabość gospodarki jak również znaczący wpływ Kremla na Kijów, który w konsekwencji doprowadził do aneksji Krymu przez Rosję oraz walk militarnych na wschodzie Ukrainy. Dlatego też, autor rozwija te tematy, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem problemów gospodarczych. Autor niniejszej pracy udowadnia, że przed Ukrainą jest jeszcze długa droga do osiągnięcia takiego poziomu rozwoju jak w krajach na zachód od Kijowa.

Ukraine, in almost every respect is a country in need of political, economic and social reforms. Therefore, the aim of this study is to show the main causes due to which this country was not able to make political transformation, which involves, among others, the introduction of democratic rule of law, free market economy and civil society. Therefore, the author at the beginning of his dissertation focuses mainly on the historical presentation of the problem and seeks to identify the key moments in the recent history of Ukraine, which had an impact on the present state of this country. However, there are other reasons, such as the so-called. oligarchic democracy, the weakness of the economy as well as the significant influence of the Kremlin on Kiev, which consequently led to the annexation of the Crimea by Russia and the military fighting in the east of Ukraine. Therefore, the author develops these topics, with a particular focus on economic issues. The author of this paper proves that Ukraine has still a long way before it to achieve the level of growth as in countries west of Kiev.
