Jezus z Nazaretu jest postacią równie inspirującą, co intrygującą. Próba spojrzenia na Jego biografię przez pryzmat literatury rozpoczyna się poetologiczną analizą Jezusa z Nazarethu Romana Brandstaettera, w porównaniu z Jezusem Chrystusem. Biografią Petera Seewalda oraz Jezusem z Nazaretu Josepha Ratzingera. Opis prowadzony za pomocą czterech wielkich figur semantycznych (autor, narrator, fabuła, odbiorca) pokazuje, w jak różnorodny sposób wspólna inspiracja – osoba Jezusa – może zaistnieć na kartach książek. Biografia, jako tekst z pogranicza sztuki i nauki, wymaga zbadania historyczności postaci Nazarejczyka w oparciu zarówno o źródła chrześcijańskie (ewangelie) oraz niechrześcijańskie (dokumenty Józefa Flawiusza, Tacyta, Pliniusza Młodszego, Swetoniusza). Analiza historycznej faktografii ma na celu ocenę wiarygodności Jezusa z Nazarethu na tle innych utworów o tej tematyce – Seewalda, Ratzingera, ale także Renana, Kołakowskiego, Kosidowskiego. Dobór zróżnicowanych form podawczych analizowanych dzieł (Brandstaetter – powieść, Ratzinger – dyskurs, Seewald – reportaż) w pewien sposób zdeterminował ich zawartość merytoryczną. Interpretacja życiorysu Jezusa w perspektywie żywotów świętych prowadzi do wniosku, iż Jego biografia jest swoistą protohagiografią.

Jesus from Nazareth is an inspiring and intriguing person. If we take a look at His biography form the perspective of literature, it turns out that we should start with the analysis of Roman Brandstaetter’s Jesus from Nazareth and compare it to Peter Seewald’s Jesus Christ. Biography and Joseph Ratzinger’s Jesus from Nazareth. Four semantic figures are employed in a description: an author, narrator, plot and recipient. The description shows that all of the authors had inspiration which helped them to create books on the similar topic. The biography which is considered to be the text including the disciplines of art and science requires the analysis of Jesus’s history done on the basis of Christian sources (The Gospel) and non-Christian ones such as Joseph Flavius’, Tacitus’, Pliny the Younger’, and Suetonius’ documents. The analysis of historical facts presented in the materials aims to assess the credibility of Jesus from Nazareth and compare it to other similar works of the eminent authors such as Seewald, Ratzinger, Renan, Kołakowski as well as Kosidowski. The selection of various literary works such as a novel, discourse and reportage written by Brandstaetter, Ratzinger and Seewlad respectively determines their content. Taking into consideration the interpretation of Jesus’ biography from the perspective of hagiography, it can be concluded that His biography is a protohagiography.
