W pracy został zaprezentowany problem dotyczący wpływu osobowości i kompetencji bibliotekarza na czytelnictwo dzieci i młodzieży. Celem pracy było zbadanie czy osobowość, predyspozycje oraz kompetencje bibliotekarza mogą przyczynić się do rozwoju czytelnictwa, a także jak wpływają na zachowania czytelnicze dzieci i młodzieży. Zastosowane metody badawcze to analiza piśmiennictwa fachowego oraz obserwacje pracy bibliotekarzy w Miejskiej Bibliotece Publicznej w Starachowicach. Rezultatem pracy jest udowodnienie, iż czytelnictwo młodych ludzi jest zależne w dużym stopniu od takich cech bibliotekarza jak: życzliwość, otwartość, zrozumienie, chęć pomocy, wyrozumiałość.

The study was presented concern over the effects of personality and competence librarian for children and youth readership. The aim of the study was to examine whether personality characteristics and competencies of the librarian can contribute to the development of reading, as well as influence the behavior of children and young people reading. The research methods used is the analysis of professional literature and observations of librarians in the Public Library in Starachowice. The result of work is to prove that the readership of young people is dependent to a large extent on such features as a librarian: kindness, openness, understanding, willingness to help, understanding.
